It’s alarming to learn that most married couples have a sexless marriage problem. Statistically, 18% of marriages experience this problem meaning, one out of five married couples have sex 10 times or less annually. Depression, resentment, loss of self esteem, lack of effective communication, children, lack of trust or respect in a relationship, sleep deprivation, sexual aversion and illness are said to be the main causes of this problem. Change in hormonal levels mainly caused by high stress levels, substance abuse or aging can also lead to a decline in sexual activity. The problem doesn’t occur overnight, it’s a gradual process.

Inadequate or no sex at all between married couples leads to sexless marriage. A research conducted by the US National Health and Social Life found that, 2% of married defendants in divorce cases reported no sex. The research also found that most married couples have sex once a week unlike unmarried couples that have sex at least 3 times weekly. An average of twenty to twenty-five percent men and thirty to fifty percent women are said to lack sex drive. In relation to this, most women suffer from Hypoactive Sexual Desire (HSD), a recurring or persistent lack of sexual desire.

When sex desire partially or completely disappears from your partner, it can bring with it great emotional as well as psychological torture. Sexless married life can lead to deep separation between couples and if unchecked can also cause resentment leading to marital violence, loneliness, depression and desperation or cheating between spouses. According to newspaper reports, interviews conducted on random married couples indicate that most couples have no sex intimacy or do not enjoy sex at all with their partners. This definitely shatters a couple’s sex life and could be the first step into a loveless marriage or a brutal divorce.

However, there are several sexless marriage tips that you can learn in order to fix your sexless marriage and reclaim lost passion and intimacy. First, find out the major causes in depth as lack of sex in marriage is usually a symptom not the problem. Secondly, you must come to terms with the reality that this problem is experienced not only by you but also 18% of married couples. The power of effective communication is most crucial in mending this problem. This is because, without proper exchange of information between married couples, a spouse cannot tell what the partner is going through.
